The chair, which is also referred to as Chiavarina or Tiffany today, was designed by the Italian carpenter Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi at the beginning of the 19th century, who made the construction of the conventional ladder-back chair particularly stable and robust with his specially developed slotted system. With the Chiavari construction, the natural wooden chair achieved an unmatched elasticity, lightness, and resilience. In addition, the simpler decoration and structure gave the chair a noticeable beauty and elegance, which is why it remains the preferred chair for festive occasions to this day.
